  • Starting from November 2007 WRC is implementing the project “Combating Domestic Violence in Armenia through Legislative Initiative on Domestic Violence” sponsored by Open Society Institute Foundation – Armenia and OSCE/ODHIR. This project is aimed at advocacy and lobbying of the Draft Law on Domestic Violence with the end in view to push it forward for adoption by the National Parliament of RA.
  • Jointly with Gynuity Health Projects, WRC implement the project of introduction of the method of medical abortion in Armenia. In 2007, WRC conducted a survey on expanding access to medical abortion and vacuum aspiration in Armenia among 100 service providers and 400 women of reproductive age. Based upon survey results WRC promoted this method in relevant state structures and obtained the approval of Ministry of Health of Republic of Armenia for method introduction. Official approval was followed by registration of Mifepristone, the major component of medical abortion. Second phase of the project - training of first group of service providers was conducted in November 2007. The final phase - actual introduction of the method in 3 clinics – started on 15th of January 2008.
  • Website Stop Violence against Women and National Monitor Project. The activity of the Women’s Rights Center (WRC) as a National Violence against Women (NVAW) Monitor was implemented in two main directions: updating the Armenian National Home page on the StopVAW website and raising society’s awareness on the issue of violence against women, the website and the Armenian home page on it.

    Marine Yeghiazaryan, psychologist of Women's rights center, took part in the meeting-discussion of the  working group on gender-based violence in the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

    The discussion focused on the main problems, gaps and obstacles caused by the epidemic, and submission of organized and response actions by the government.All the participants shared their experience and problems occured during Coronvirus. Psychologist of Women's rights center also presented activities which were carried in the state emergency. Discussion was summed up with answer and question session.

    Support for the beneficiaries of Women's Rights Center
    Support for the beneficiaries of Women's Rights Center

    The Beneficiaries of Women's Rights Center who have been affected by socio-economic consequences  of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and have social problems occured during quarantine situation are provided with financial support in the frames of KVINNA till KVINNA project. During the program, social assistance was provided to women, paying the utility bills of 22 beneficiaries, and rents of 6 beneficiaries' houses.

    Social assistance programs will be ongoing, including programs from the United Nations and the European Union.

    In fact, related to COVID-19 lockdown, there has been a surge in cases of domestic violence not only in all over the world, but also in Armenia where victims of domestic violence are more vulnerable and at risk to a frighteningly new degree of violence.

    Online training on “What is domestic violence and its legal regulations”
    Online training on “What is domestic violence and its legal regulations” According to the instituted quarantine regime in the country to control the spread of the highly contagious disease in Armenia, WRC staff is currently working from home, providing assistance to its beneficiaries via and taking responsibility and making reasonable approach in this situation. As seminars, conferences and other meetings are prohibited WRC staff decided to held online trainings instead.

    Severe case of violence happened in Armenia Severe case of violence happened in Armenia on March 5, at around 2:50 pm in the Textile Makers district of Gyumri. 43-year-old Marine Kh. got into an argument with her close friend in her house.
