11th AWID International Forum held in Cape Town, South Africa co-sponsored by Global Fund for Women (13.11.2008)

Over 1,500 women's rights leaders and activists from around the world converged at the 11th AWID International Forum held in Cape Town, South Africa from November 14-17, 2008 to discuss and strategize about how to build stronger movements that advance women's rights and gender equality globally.

 
Amnesty International: No Pride in Silence (12.11.2008)
Around 25% of women in Armenia at least once have been subjected to domestic violence. 27% of 1000 women-respondents in Armenia have been subjected to physical violence. These figures have been provided by the Amnesty International experts.
 
Round table-discussion on Expanding Access to Medical Abortion in Armenia (22.10.2008)

On October 23, 2008, at Armenia-Marriott hotel Women’s Rights Center organized roundtable on the topic of “Expanding Access to Medical Abortion in Armenia”. Doctors from a number of medical centers, clinics and maternity homes were invited to participate in the round table.

 
1st World Conference of Women’s Shelters (07.09.2008)

The first World Conference of Women’s Shelters organized by Alberta Council of Women's Shelters, Canada was held from September 8-11, 2008 and presented a new opportunity for workers preventing family violence in Canada and around the world to network, share proven innovations, and to learn from international experts and each other.

 
Roundtable discussion on Draft DV Law (01.07.2008)

 The second Roundtable discussion on Draft of RA Law on Domestic Violence was organized and conducted by WRC on July 2, 2008 at Armenia-Marriott hotel to discuss development stages of the current Draft.

Since 2007 Women’s Right Center is implementing the project aimed at drafting and passing the Armenian Law on Domestic Violence. During the previous phases of the project a draft law was elaborated by working group, which consists of representatives of Ministry of Labor and Social Issues, the Police, Ministry of Health, Judges, etc.

 
Roundtable-discussion on Draft of RA Law on Domestic Violence (24.04.2008)

Within the framework of the “Combating Domestic Violence in Armenia through Legislative Initiative on Domestic Violence” project Women’s Rights Center has organized the roundtable discussion on Draft of RA Law on Domestic Violence on 25 April, 2008 at Armenia-Marriott hotel.
Fifty-one representatives from Ministry of Social and Labor Issues of RA, Yerevan City Hall, Science, Social and Health Departments of Yerevan District Communities, international and non-governmental organizations participated in the roundtable discussion.

 
Investigation of legislation of foreign countries in the field of domestic violence (09.05.2007)

Since February 1, 2007 the Women’s Rights Center lawyer has been investigating the legislation of the USA, Canada, Brazil, England, Holland, Bulgaria, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Ecuador, the Republic of South Africa, Costa Rica, Puerto Rica, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Israel, Iran and Pakistan in the sphere of domestic violence.

 
"Prevention of domestic violence against women" (24.04.2007)

On March 15, 20, 28 and April 18, 20, 23, 2007 the Women’s Rights Center has organized trainings on the theme of “Prevention of domestic violence against women” for 50 representatives of the police, psychologists, social and health care workers of Yerevan, Vanadzor and Gyumri.

 
Meeting in the Malatia Medical Center (22.04.2007)

On April 23, 2007, M. Zaqaryan, the Women’s Right Center psychologist, has organized a meeting at women’s consultation of Malatia Medical Center and has introduced the staff to the activity of the National Hot Line.

 
Case study in police and courts of Yerevan (18.04.2007)

In the framework of “Combat domestic violence in Armenia” project, the Women’s Rights Center’s lawyer has in the period of 1 January – 30 March, 2007 conducted base-line investigation in police stations and courts to discover the gaps in the legal, administrative and institutional frameworks that address the issue of domestic violence and come up with policy recommendations, taking into consideration the experience of foreign countries in the field of domestic violence.

 
Meeting in the medical collage (09.04.2007)

On April 5, 2007 Ts.Karapetyan, the WRC psychologist, and D.Papazyan participated in the “The role of women in society” meeting in the medical collage of Erebouni community. During the meeting, the topics of violence against women, women and politics, the social role of the woman in society were touched on.
