Round Table Discussion on Gender-Biased Sex Selection in Armenia (02.08.2015)

On July 30, 2015 a round table discussion devoted to the “Problems of Prevention and Legislative Regulations of Sex Selective Abortions in Armenia” took place at Ani Plaza Hotel. The meeting was organized by the International Center for Human Development NGO. Representatives from different Ministries, RA Police, international organizations, as well Women’s Rights Center and other NGOs participated in the discussion. RA Ministry of Health proposed amendments to the current Law on Human Reproductive Health and Rights which were introduced and discussed during the meeting. Within the framework of the project ''Combating Gender-Biased Sex Selection in Armenia'' round-table discussions will be held periodically. These meetings will be devoted to the discussion of the reasons, factors, mechanisms, consequences of prenatal sex selection and gender-biased abortion, as well as to elimination of these phenomena, prevention of gender-biased abortions and discussion of best international and Armenian experiences and policy initiatives for combating discrimination.
